Tea or Coffee?

Posted by Luke Coffey on

Coffee is the universal drink that can be found at almost any time of the day. If you’re a university student, you probably know that there are designated ‘coffee hours’ on campus. But with all this coffee drinking, why would anyone choose tea over coffee? Coffee has its own set of benefits, but so does tea. Both drinks are great in their own ways and whether it’s because you have a sweet tooth or because you prefer the taste of tea instead of coffee, both drinks are good for you—it’s just that one is better than the other depending on your taste buds and personal preferences. It helps to know why you personally might prefer one over the other so here are seven reasons why I drink tea instead of coffee.

Tea Has Less Caffeine But More Vitamin C

Compared to coffee, tea has less caffeine but more Vitamin C. While it’s true that both drinks are rich in antioxidants, Vitamin C can protect your skin from harmful UV rays and promote collagen production. With less caffeine than coffee, tea is a better choice if you’re looking to reduce anxiety, stay focused, and improve sleep. Tea is also a great alternative for those who are caffeine sensitive or are looking to wean themselves off coffee.

It Simply Tastes Better

If you’re looking for something a bit sweeter and more flavourful than coffee, tea is an excellent choice. It comes in a wide variety of flavours and can be enjoyed either hot or cold. Depending on the type of tea you choose, it can also be a good source of Vitamin C and antioxidants. If you’re more in the mood for a warm beverage, black tea is also a great option.

You Don't Need As Much To Feel The Effects

Coffee is great and all, but you’d have to down a whole cup to feel the effects. Drinking too much coffee, especially too much caffeine, can actually have adverse side effects such as dehydration and nervousness. Tea, on the other hand, is a more balanced beverage that can be enjoyed in smaller doses and in different varieties. You’re less likely to overdo it and experience the negative effects of too much caffeine if you’re drinking tea instead of coffee.

It Makes You Feel More Awake Without The Jitters

Coffee can make you feel jittery and disturb your sleep, but tea is gentler on your system and won’t leave you feeling as edgy as coffee can. If you work in a high-pressure environment where you need to stay alert, tea can be a great option since it allows you to stay awake without the jitters that coffee can cause. Drinking tea before work is a great alternative to coffee.

You Have More Control Over Your Cuppa

Coffee beans are roasted, ground, and brewed fresh while tea leaves are dried and left to steep in hot water. Aside from the obvious differences in brewing methods, tea leaves have more flavour options than coffee beans. You can choose to have your tea leaves brewed strong, weak, or in between. Coffee, on the other hand, is a bit more straightforward and often requires only coffee grounds and water. With coffee, you’re stuck with one texture and flavour, but with tea, you can customize the way it tastes to you.

Coffee Can Be Bad For Your Health - Tea Can't

Coffee isn’t good for your teeth and can even increase the risk of cavities. If you’re prone to heartburn, coffee can relax your esophageal sphincter and worsen your symptoms. Coffee is also known to cause dehydration and can cause your teeth to lose minerals and nutrients. Tea, on the other hand, is rich in antioxidants and can actually improve your health. It has anti-inflammatory properties, can prevent cavities, and can even promote weight loss. It’s no wonder why people have been drinking tea for centuries.

Conclusion

While both coffee and tea have their own sets of benefits, tea is a more balanced beverage that doesn’t have as much of a negative effect on your health. It can promote weight loss, improve dental health, and protect your skin from harmful UV rays. It also tastes better and is easier on the stomach. If you’re looking for an alternative to coffee or want a different beverage that’s less acidic, tea is a great choice. It has less caffeine and is gentler on the stomach while also promoting better oral health and being rich in antioxidants. Whether you prefer tea over coffee because of the taste, the way it makes you feel, or the benefits it has over coffee, tea is the drink for you.
